What makes a sudoku easy
Sudoku difficulty isn't about how many numbers are given; it's about the hardest step you need. We grade every puzzle the way sudoku experts do, by solving it step by step and noting the hardest move, and an easy grid never needs more than the first one: look at a box, pick a digit, and find the only cell where it fits.
Easy grids also start with plenty of clues (36–37 of the 81), so there is almost always a move in sight, and each digit you place opens up the next.
Tips for easy puzzles
- Start with the fullest box. The fewer gaps it has, the sooner a digit is forced.
- Scan one digit at a time: follow every 1 across the grid, then every 2, and look for the box where it has only one home left.
- Skip the pencil marks for now. Easy grids never need them, and solving in your head is good practice for the harder levels.
Questions
Is easy sudoku good for beginners?
Yes, it's the best place to start. You only need the basic rule (each digit once per row, column and box) and a little patience. If you get stuck, the hint button reveals one cell at a time and explains why it's right.
How long does an easy sudoku take?
Most people finish an easy puzzle in 5 to 15 minutes, and experienced solvers often in under five. The timer starts when you begin playing, and your best time for each level is saved on this device.
Can I play easy sudoku with a friend?
Yes. "Play this with a friend" opens a multiplayer room at the same level. Share the invite link and you both fill in the same board in real time.
